WATERCOLOUR PAINTING - Originals and Prints
The majority of watercolours presented depict the contrasting nature of the countryside and the built up environment of different parts of Scotland. In addition compositions of Italy, particularly Tuscany, where the artist has been privileged to spend many painting holidays, are included as well as two compositions of Portugal.
The Scottish paintings illustrate scenery from Inverness-shire, Moidart and Argyll in the Highlands and from the Isles of Arran, South Uist and Harris in the Hebrides. Midlothian is well represented as is the Scottish Borders, the two areas with which the artist has been associated most of his life. Compositions from other areas include two from Banffshire and one from Shetland.
The majority of the Italian paintings are of Tuscany but Lake Garda, Florence, Venice and Amalfi in the Bay of Naples are also featured. One of the paintings of Portugal is of Lagos, the other represents a typical Portugese building.
